Storefront filters let shoppers quickly narrow down products on search and collection pages. When enabled, customers can filter items by availability, product type, color, or other attributes—making it easier for them to find exactly what they’re looking for.

Use the Shopify Search & Discovery app to tailor your store’s filters, search results, and product recommendations. This gives you greater control over how shoppers explore and discover your products.

# Check if your theme supports filtering

Filters require an Online Store 2.0 theme. To confirm support:

  1. You can still create filters, but they won’t appear on the storefront unless the theme is compatible.
  2. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Navigation.
    • Look for the Collection and search filters section.
    • If your theme doesn’t support filtering, you’ll see a notice.

# Display filters

Themes will provide a section setting to allow you to turn filtering on and off for your online store.

For Shopify-developed themes, you can find this setting in the Product grid section of collection pages.

After the customer selects a filter option, the resulting list of filtered products will automatically update to display products that match the customer’s criteria.
